Google Posts let you publish short updates, offers and events directly on your Google Business Profile. They show up when people find you on Google Search and Maps, right where they are deciding whether to call you. Yet many profiles have never posted, or stopped years ago.

The hardest part is knowing what to say. Here are 20 ideas you can rotate through all year.

The three post types

  • Update: news, tips, photos of recent work. This is the one you will use most.
  • Offer: a promotion with a title, dates and optional coupon code or terms.
  • Event: something with a start and end date, like a workshop or open house.

Each post can include a photo or video and a button such as Book, Order online, Learn more or Call now.

20 post ideas

Show your work

  1. A before-and-after photo of a recent job, with one sentence on what you did.
  2. A new product, menu item or service, with a clear photo and price if you can share it.
  3. A behind-the-scenes look at how you prepare, clean or set up.
  4. A customer story, with their permission: the problem, what you did and the result.
  5. A project that shows a specific skill, like a tricky repair or a custom order.

Help and educate

  1. A seasonal tip: "Three things to check on your furnace before the first cold night."
  2. An answer to a question customers ask you every week.
  3. A quick myth versus fact about your industry.
  4. What to expect at a first visit or appointment.
  5. A short checklist customers can use before calling you.

Promote and invite

  1. A limited-time offer with clear dates and terms.
  2. A holiday or seasonal promotion, such as back-to-school, Black Friday or spring cleaning.
  3. An event, open house, tasting or workshop.
  4. New or extended hours, especially before holidays.
  5. A reminder to book early for your busy season.

Build trust

  1. Introduce a team member, with a photo and what they love about their job.
  2. A new certification, license, award or partnership.
  3. Thank customers for a milestone, like 10 years in business or 500 reviews.
  4. A local cause or event you support.
  5. Share a recent review, with the customer's permission, and say thank you.

How to write a post people act on

  • Lead with the point. The first line is what shows in the preview, so put the offer, tip or news there.
  • Keep it short. You can write up to 1,500 characters, but 100 to 300 usually works best.
  • Use your own photo. A clear, well-lit photo of your real work beats any stock image.
  • Add one button that matches the goal: Book for appointments, Call now for urgent services, Learn more for a page on your site.
  • Mention your service and area naturally, the way a customer would say it, without stuffing keywords.

How often should you post?

Once a week is a good rhythm for most local businesses. Every two weeks is fine if you are busy. Consistency matters more than volume: a profile that posts every week looks open and active, and older posts gradually move down as new ones appear.

Things to avoid

  • Phone numbers in the post text. Use the Call button instead; Google may reject posts with phone numbers.
  • Misleading offers or prices you cannot honor.
  • Posting the same text every week.
  • Content that breaks Google's content policies, such as restricted products or offensive images.
