Most businesses fill in their name, hours and phone number, then stop. The Services and Products sections stay empty, even though they describe exactly what customers are searching for. A customer types "AC repair", "lash extensions" or "gluten-free pizza", and a profile that lists those things clearly is easier for Google to match and easier for the customer to choose.

Services or products: which do you need?

  • Services describe the work you do: "Drain cleaning", "Teeth whitening", "Brake repair", "Wedding catering". Almost every service business should use them.
  • Products describe things you sell or packages with a set price: a menu item, a retail product, a "Spring lawn care package". They show as cards with a photo, price and button.

Many businesses use both. Which options you see depends on your business category.

How to add services

  1. Open your Business Profile on Google Search or Maps while signed in, and choose Edit services.
  2. Start with the suggested services Google offers for your category and tick every one you actually provide.
  3. Add custom services for anything missing.
  4. For each service, add a short description and, if you are comfortable, a price or starting price.

Writing good service descriptions

You have up to 300 characters per service. Use them to answer what a customer would ask before calling:

  • What is included, in plain words.
  • Who it is for or when they need it.
  • Anything that sets you apart: same-day, licensed, warranty, languages spoken.

Example: "Drain cleaning for kitchen, bathroom and main sewer lines. Camera inspection available. Same-day service in Dallas and Plano, upfront pricing, 90-day warranty on clears."

Write it the way a customer talks. "Furnace repair" beats "thermal comfort solutions".

Choosing what to list

  • List each main service separately rather than one service called "Everything".
  • Match the words customers use. Your Search Console queries and the calls you get are the best source.
  • Do not list services you do not really offer. It leads to wasted calls and bad reviews.
  • Do not repeat the same keyword with small variations, like "Plumber Austin", "Austin plumber", "Best plumber Austin". It looks spammy and does not help.

How to add products

  1. Choose Edit products on your profile, then Add product.
  2. Add a clear product name, a category to group similar items, and a photo you took yourself.
  3. Add a price or price range, and a description of what the customer gets.
  4. Add a button if it fits, such as Order online, Buy or Learn more, linked to the right page on your website.

Good product ideas for service businesses: a fixed-price package ("Furnace tune-up"), a membership plan, a gift card, or a first-visit special with clear terms.

Keep them current

  • Update prices at least once a year, and right away when they change.
  • Remove services or products you stop offering.
  • Add seasonal items before the season starts.
  • Make sure your website says the same thing as your profile. Mismatches confuse customers.

Common mistakes

  • Leaving descriptions blank.
  • Listing prices you cannot honor.
  • Using stock photos for products.
  • Copying the same description into every service.
  • Forgetting the profile after a menu or price change.
